چکیده

A very fast monolithic charge sensitive preamplifier using HF2CMOS technology featuring less than 45mW power dissipation for a 5V max imum output voltage swing, with a slew rate about 700Y/~csec for 150pF input capacitance (~ 7nsec rise time), has been realized . A front-end set up for the read out of more detectors and the shaping of the signal with a 20nsec RC-CR filter employing only monolithic preamplifiers is described and tested. The measured value of ENC (Electronic Noise Charge) for the arrangement with 150pF input ca pacitance is 17keRMS The preamplifier meets the requirements for silicon calorimetey appli cation for experiments at the hadron colliders SSC/LHC.

A digital Front-End Readout MIcrosystem for calorimeters at LHC

The Front-End Read-out MIcrosystem (FERMI) for calorimeters at LHC presented last year has been further developed with the aim to achieve a fu l l silicon implementation early 1994. Each microsystem will, as before, contain 9 channels with 15-16 bits dynamic range using IO-bit AD converters sampled every 15 ns. The function is accomplished by using a non-linear amplifier in front of the ADC to ...

An Electromagnetic Calorimeter for the Silicon Detector (SiD) Concept

To complement LHC capabilities, ILC detectors must reconstruct hadronic final states, including reasonable separability ofW jets from Z jets. The LDC and SiD full detector concept designs include silicon-tungsten (Si-W) electromagnetic calorimeters (ECal) for particle flow reconstruction of jets at the ILC. With high density and segmentation, they are critical to the physics goal jet energy res...

SILICON PIN DIODE HYBRID ARRiYS FOR CHARGED PARTICLE DETECTION: -BUILDING BLOCKS FOR VERTEX DETECTORS AT THE SSC”

Two-dimensional arrays of solid state detectors have long been used in visible and infrared systems. Hybrid arrays with separately optimized detector and readout substrates have been extensively developed for infrared sensors. The characteristics and use of these infrared readout chips with silicon PIN diode arrays produced by MICRON SEMICONDUCTOR for detecting high-energy particles are reporte...

2 00 5 Pixel Detectors

Pixel detectors for precise particle tracking in high energy physics have been developed to a level of maturity during the past decade. Three of the LHC detectors will use vertex detectors close to the interaction point based on the hybrid pixel technology which can be considered the 'state of the art' in this field of instrumentation. A development period of almost 10 years has resulted in pix...

The CMS experiment at the CERN LHC

The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector is described. The detector operates at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It was conceived to study proton-proton (and leadlead) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV (5.5 TeV nucleon-nucleon) and at luminosities up to 1034 cm−2s−1 (1027 cm−2s−1). At the core of the CMS detector sits a high-magneticfield and large-bore superconducting sol...
